About Artist:
Julian Hunt’s “Dance Into The Dark” reads like a natural blend of theatre, storytelling, and pop instinct. Raised in Toronto, he developed his voice at Big Voice Studios with Elaine Overholt before attending Etobicoke School of the Arts, later sharpening his narrative lens in Concordia University’s Creative Writing program. It was during those years that songwriting took hold, pairing self-taught piano with a focus on character and emotional nuance, shaped by a deep love of musical theatre, 2010s pop, and the influence of female and queer artists. Now based in Vancouver and working out of Boutique Empire Studios with producer Mark Henning, Julian has been steadily building momentum, from early radio play and press for “Sharks In The Pool” to continued coverage around “Marine Drive,” carving out a space that feels both intimate and expansive.
Dance Into The Dark” pushes that evolution further, landing as an upbeat, experimental pop track rooted in emotional contradiction and release. As Julian puts it, the song holds “an extreme yet indecisive point of view,” capturing the back-and-forth of wanting to break a pattern while still being pulled toward it, where “the potential of something working out can outweigh the risk of being disappointed.” That tension runs throughout, reflecting how “you can feel drastically different about the same situation or person day to day,” with uncertainty that can feel “exhilarating and addictive” one moment and draining the next. Built from one of his earliest pop ideas in 2024 and later expanded in studio, the track leans into a theatrical, space-like soundscape of looping synths that grow with each section. At its core, it embraces the idea of choosing the unknown with intention, a moment where, even without control, “you’re choosing to jump into the unknown and dance into the dark, and you might as well have fun with it.”
