“Fräulein B” (transl. “Miss B”) is an excerpt from a poem I wrote in 10th grade to my first love – Berlin; the city I grew up in. It describes how through its love for excess and its dark and divided past, the city has since been transformed into a mecca for self-expression where anything goes – whilst this hurt and dirt are still inherently part of the fabric which makes it. When I found the poem years later and decided to turn it into a song my initial reaction was to translate it into English. However, I realized quickly for it to retain the somewhat profoundly personal meaning it had to me I had to keep it in my mother tongue, German. This song is definitely more outside of the box than most stuff I do, not just regarding language and lyrics, but also musically. The groove is definitely inspired by early Electro of the 80s and there is a change in tempo in the middle of the song, which is something new I have tried out for the first time. I think you can find parts of this Berlin attitude scattered throughout the song – a tendency to think more freely, less restricted and bend what’s expected a little bit.
