That Adam Stacks produces electronic music today was never the plan – but the result of a journey that started far from the 4/4 pulse: somewhere between hip-hop, self-made beats, and the desire to stay independent.
At 14, he began producing his first hip-hop beats using Fruity Loops, later started rapping, recorded mixtapes, handed out CDs on the street, and performed at freestyle battles. MySpace became his digital outlet. Musically, he was first shaped by Boom Bap and Dancehall, later increasingly by Southern rap – from Trick Daddy to Cash Money Millionaires. It’s no surprise his early music sounded more like Florida or Atlanta than New York sample culture.
Over time, Adam’s focus shifted away from rapping – not out of frustration, but clarity. Beatmaking fascinated him more than the mic. He realized: sound design, building atmosphere, shaping rhythm and space – that was his thing.
While German rappers initially struggled with his US-influenced sound, his beats unexpectedly resonated with American soldiers stationed in Mannheim – earning him his first income through music. And early on, it taught him a lasting lesson: artistic independence pays off.
