From Zoe: “I was thinking about how before video calls we had no visuals, just words and imagination, and how powerful it could be to hear just someone’s voice from many miles away. Without seeing someone your mind fills in the gaps and is capable of building intense thoughts and feelings.” Their music traverses the realms of synthpop, synthwave, electronic, and indie dance while carrying the essence of 80s icons like Depeche Mode and New Order. Higher has hints of CATBEAR’s hit track, In the Night and echoes the queer euphoria of Romy, the pulsating basslines of Robyn, the big synth-pop melodies of CHVRCHES and the emotive, sensual lyrics of Muna.
CATBEAR’s deep connection with their global fanbase, including their dedicated WhatsApp backstage community, fuels their creative passion. It’s been an incredible year for the duo; a UK tour supporting The Subways was followed by an invitation to play at The Great Escape festival in May, and with editorial backing from Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube/VEVO they reached the huge milestone of 1 million streams on Spotify in July. They’re currently immersed in crafting a new album scheduled for release in 2024.
