CUT_ has been diligently working on new music, taking matters in their own hands by incorporating self-made videos and artwork. The first track of this exciting collection, consisting of eight songs and accompanying videos, was released on July 28th in quick succesion number two “Reflex” is to be released on August 25. By taking full creative control, CUT_ emphasises the significance behind their artistic expression and pushing back against the set ways of the music industry. The forthcoming music showcases a raw and irresistibly danceable side of the electronic duo, unlike anything you’ve heard from them before.
This project draws inspiration from the vibrant club culture. Reflex is set in a dark clubscene referring to behaviour that is purely instinctual. Without thought responding to stimuli. Lust, escapism, betrayal, impulsive but also a strong sense of togetherness. The video is all about glitched vision, reminding the viewer of bright coloured lights in the cub while moving jerkily and uncontrollably.
The song is a story. The vocal is strong and present until in the end it gives space to another lead part. The track takes a turn and turns into something else, reminding of the late 80’s acid house tracks. Inspired by sounds and instruments from that era Reflex is an ode to the founding fathers of that time whilst still using strong and modern songwriting as a base.
The video, shot entirely on iPhones, embraces a grainy and DIY aesthetic. After capturing the footage, the glitch artist Cyborg Jungle applies their unique touch, utilising vintage ’90s gear and televisions to create a distinctively gritty and colourful visual experience. As the video intertwines with the track, it culminates in a breathtaking eruption of flashing colours and fragmented imagery.
The artwork for this project also stems from the same creative process, presenting a cohesive and visually captivating style that sets the tone for the eight songs and accompanying videos. The result is a striking and powerful visual and auditory experience that encapsulates the essence of CUT_’s artistic vision.
