About Artist:
Few musicians in the underground scene have had the same level of impact that Len Faki has had during his career spanning over two decades. As an original Berghain resident he‘s risen to become one of the most in-demand artists on the circuit, playing all in every corner of the world. His performances are an audio-visual adventure where he is not only playing to the crowd but rather performing for and with them. As a label-head he‘s released over 130 records on his Figure imprint, giving a necessary platform to predominantly emerging artists. As a producer and most importantly an artist, his creative flair knows no bounds, with his sound constantly evolving, and never losing the same vibrant, unique energy and passion that he puts into his sets.
It‘s been an incredible journey for the Stuttgart native, who moved to Berlin in 2003. It didn‘t take long for him to establish himself in Germany‘s burgeoning techno-capital. Having played at Ostgut a few times in the past, he was then invited to become one of the first residents of the newly formed Beghain, playing the opening night many years ago, not knowing the significance of such a moment at the time, however there was a feeling that they were onto something special.
I believe it was the right people, with the right visions and passion at the right place, and at the right time. His affiliation with Berghain is truly special, there‘s no other place he‘s played more, whereby the setup of the club is second nature to him, and is where he often tests out new material. The characteristics of an extra long DJ-set in what he calls his „living room“ inspires him to vary in tone and fully roll out his style to explore and further deepen his mastery of turning a DJ-set into a bona fide musical journey.
Whilst he‘s most known for his label Figure, his experience with labels goes even further back, having founded the highly acclaimed Monoid and Feis. However, it‘s his rationale for setting up Figure that is something most artists can relate to. Len was inspired to set up Figure after struggling to get his own music signed to other labels, and wanting to have an outlet for his creations.
In fact it wasn‘t until his 9th release that he invited another artist onto the label, and since then it‘s gone from strength to strength, welcoming established names such as Jeroen Search, kirilik (AKA KiNK), as well as upcoming talents that include, Adiel, Viers and Arthur Robert. To support and believe in the success of upcoming artists was and always will be a matter close to Len’s heart and so the label is constantly scouting for fresh talent to develop and produce. As the label looks ahead to its forthcoming 20th anniversary, Figure continues to set an elevated standard for techno music that is equal parts versatile, exciting and cutting- edge.
Len‘s productions are countless, and his dedication to his craft is second to none. Notable hits include his 2007 „Rainbow Delta/Mekong Delta ‚‘ double A-side, put out on Ostgut Ton, which brought a new wave of attention to Faki, and followed up with tracks such as „My Black Sheep“ or „Odyssee II“ in 2007 and 2008 respectively, leading to him being topping various reader polls in Groove magazine in categories such as „Best Track“ and „Best Producer“, which was a tremendous honour to be the first artist awarded with the triple-status, which in turn saw his status rise.
