Label Announcement:
With a cinematic, haunting, and extremely fine-tuned lead-in to “Overtone”, Silhouetted Horizons makes clear from the outset that he’s not your typical electronic music producer. The slow burning build-up climaxes into a veritable kaleidoscope of sound, with chopped up vocals colliding against unique synth stabs and ricocheting percussion, resulting in beautiful, hypnotic controlled chaos that somehow still feels extremely soothing. The four-and-a-half minute track is a compelling journey through a layered, complex soundscape, and offers all sorts of indications that Silhouetted Horizons is a serious name to watch in the world of electronic music.
Ben elaborates on “Overtone”:
“I tried to draw on the entirety of my influences, old and new, when writing “Overtone” – There is an intentionally (new) retro electronica feel that really pulls from trailblazer artists such as The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Orbital or Leftfield but framed in the same type of reimagining you hear in a lot of the future garage and bass music nostalgia going on right now.”
It’s no surprise then to discover that Benjamin Hurd, the brains and hands behind Silhouetted Horizons, is already a well-renowned sound designer and engineer in the highly specialized world of fine art. His work has been showcased at prestigious events and venues such as the Locarno Film Festival, The Venice Biennale, Tate Modern, The British Art Show, The Berlin Biennale, deYoung, Bonniers, The Serpentine, ICA, and various collaborations with Nike.
A lifelong musician, Benjamin Hurd has always been intrigued by the subtle nuances that differentiate sound from music. His goal is to craft distinctive and immersive electronic productions that draw inspiration from a myriad of genres within the electronic realm, and “Overtone” is exactly that, establishing a signature sound we’ll be hearing for years to come.
